Orthodontics
For a beautiful and healthy smile.
What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of dental and jaw irregularities. The goal of orthodontics is to achieve a correct bite, a beautiful smile, and to improve overall oral health. Irregularities of the teeth and jaws, such as misaligned teeth, spaces between teeth, or an incorrect bite, can cause difficulties in chewing, speaking, cleaning teeth, and can even affect an individual’s self-confidence.

How do dental and jaw irregularities arise?
Irregularities of the teeth and jaws can be hereditary or arise due to various factors, such as:
- Genetic factors
- Premature or excessively late loss of baby teeth
- Thumb or pacifier sucking in childhood
- Incorrect breathing (mouth breathing)
- Jaw injuries
How to recognize dental and jaw irregularities?
Dental and jaw irregularities can manifest with various symptoms, including:
- Misaligned teeth
- Spaces between teeth
- Protruding teeth
- Incorrect bite (overbite, underbite, crossbite)
- Difficulties in chewing or speaking (phonation)
- Jaw or facial pain

How does orthodontic treatment proceed?
At Feeldent practice, we offer comprehensive orthodontic care that includes several steps:
Diagnostics
- Clinical Examination: The dentist will examine your teeth and jaws to assess their condition.
- X-rays: X-rays will show the position of the teeth and jaws.
- Photography: Photographs of the face and teeth will assist in treatment planning.
- Taking Impressions: A study model will be made based on the dental impressions.
Treatment with Orthodontic Appliances
- Fixed orthodontic appliances – “braces”: For a long time, this was the most common type of orthodontic appliance for correcting most tooth and jaw irregularities. At the Feeldent practice, we use modern Smilers technology – Invisible dental braces.
- Smilers (Invisible dental braces): A transparent dental appliance used for the correction of minor and medium-severe irregularities. Smilers, also known as Invisalign, has recently gained much attention due to the advantages it offers: it is almost invisible, flexible in shape, removable, offers greater comfort, and faster results.
- Removable orthodontic appliances: Used for minor dental irregularities or as complementary treatment after fixed therapy.
Surgical Treatment
In some cases of advanced jaw irregularities, surgical treatment is necessary.
Frequently Asked Questions about Orthodontics
When is the right time for orthodontic treatment?
It is advisable for children to visit the orthodontist for the first time around seven years of age. Orthodontic treatment is also possible in adulthood.
How long does orthodontic treatment last?
The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the irregularity and ranges from a few months to several years.
Is orthodontic treatment painful?
During treatment, slight discomfort or tooth sensitivity may occur, but these issues are usually short-lived.
How do I maintain oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment?
During orthodontic treatment, regular and thorough tooth cleaning with a special toothbrush and floss is particularly important.
Can orthodontic treatment affect my general health?
Properly aligned teeth facilitate oral hygiene and reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease , as well as diminishing jaw pain, which is often a result of an incorrect bite.
What happens after orthodontic treatment?
After orthodontic treatment, it is necessary to wear a retainer that prevents the recurrence of irregularities, i.e., the return of your teeth to their original (undesired) position.
